The floating sauna where access begins at the woodshed

Grebo Bastubåt shows how booking and digital access can remove the arrival handover while leaving a very physical service operation behind.

About our research

Getting the sauna key without a lakeside meeting

One named floating-sauna operation. Guest capacity and current booking volume are not established in the reviewed material.

The job is getting each party the keys and firewood without arranging a lakeside meeting. Removing that meeting can free the operator to service the sauna between visits.

What the customer experiences

Customers choose a session, book online and receive instructions for independent access. The electronic keybox is located at the woodshed rather than on the sauna, so the access journey also controls collection of the keys and firewood.

This is a useful reminder that “access” is not always one door. The digital instruction has to connect parking, equipment collection and the final destination.

What the technology appears to handle

According to the published materials, RentalBuddy supports the booking, communication and digital access flow. The operator can make availability visible and provide the correct instructions without meeting every guest on arrival.

  • Online availability and booking
  • Automated customer instructions
  • Electronic keybox access
  • A defined return and lock-up process

What remains operational

The site still needs firewood, cleaning, inspection, maintenance and a response when the expected journey fails. Those tasks are not weaknesses in the model; they are the service route that makes the customer-facing automation credible.

Making it work on site

The documented keybox at the woodshed reuses physical keys. Offline PIN validation avoids needing Wi-Fi at that box; it does not establish how the sauna is heated, powered or monitored.

Send the code, woodshed location, lighting instructions and return steps before arrival. A guest should not need an app simply to retrieve the key; safety information and a reachable support route still matter.

Costs, upkeep and the takeaway

Measure journeys avoided per booking, then subtract cleaning, firewood replenishment, messages and call-outs. A supplier ROI example is not a substitute for Grebo’s current operating costs.

Automate the key meeting; design the heat, cleaning and firewood service separately.
